The Sybil of Nostradamus, or The Nostradamus Oracle, consists of 30 cards full of colour, symbolism and fantasy. They provide a means to acquire insight into past, present and future through their simple, easy to grasp symbolism. These symbols are very familiar ones that connect not only with regular playing cards, but also to the well-known Gypsy decks and cards as they were used by fortunetellers such as Madame Lenormand.
Originally, the cards of the Nostradamus Oracle derive from the Renaissance, the period that spawned minds such Dante Algieri, Giordano Bruno and, last not least, Nostradamus. However, the cards' symbology is much older and goes back to Greek and Roman mythology. In those times, the so-called Sybils were the keepers of occult and esoteric lore and wisdom. They were female initiates living in the area's around the Mediterranean Sea and well known as oracular priestesses who would provide seekers with oracular and symbolic answers to all their questions concerning fortune and fate, love and wealth, life and death.
The Nostradamus Oracle combines this old tradition with the new vision of life that was born in the Renaissance, adding as well the insights of contemporary thinking. This way, a modern oracle has come into being that provides easy and creative answers to a wide range of questions.
The accompanying booklet, also available separately, provides short but clear explanations of each card and also contains several patterns for working with the cards, patterns that give an extra dimension to the reading and that help in interpreting the cards' answers to one's questions.
